Setup your Netgear WiFi Extender
You can perform the setup procedure either by pressing the WPS button** or manually via Network Installation Assistant. The process for the manual Netgear WiFi Extender Setup is provided below.
Step 1: Initial Netgear Extender setup
The first step of the Netgear WiFi Extender Setup process is to unpack your router and take off all the tapes and packaging material from it. After that, take the power cable and attach it to your extender and electric socket. On the other hand, if you are using the wall-plug extender, then plug in the extender directly in the electric outlet. Once you are done with its setup, please turn it on and make sure its power lamp is green in color.
Note– You must ensure that your router is correctly set up and is turned on.
Step 2: Link your Computer and Netgear WiFI Extender
After that, you are required to build a connection between your computing device and the Netgear extender. You can build both wired or wireless connections, as per your preference. For establishing a wired connection, you need to take the ethernet/ LAN cable and attach its ends to the system and extender. Alternatively, you have to open the wireless connection window for the wireless connection and select the “Netgear_EXT” wireless connection. This is the default SSID for Netgear WiFi Extender Setup.
Step 3: Move to Network Installation Assistant window
The next step of the process is to select the preferred internet browser and launch it. To do so, you need to tap the icon of the browser that you want to open. In the browser window, enter “mywifiext.com” in the URL field. For reaching the Network Installation Assistant window, you also type in your Netgear extender’s default IP address.
Step 4: Sign In/ Sign UP to Netgear Genie Account
Hit the “New Extender Setup” button in the next window that appears on your screen. This redirects you to the Netgear Genie account window. Here, you can log in to your account by entering the valid and registered login credentials. However, if you are performing Netgear WiFi Extender Setup for the first time and you don’t have an account, then create one by providing all the required information in the given fields.
Note: At times, instead of redirecting to the Netgear Genie Account webpage, you get a popup box. In that scenario, you have to input the default login credentials to proceed further.
Step 5: Elect your WiFi network.
You will get a complete list of 2 GHz and 5 GHz networks available around you in the next window. It would be best if you ticked mark the checkbox of the network connection you want to extend.
Step 6: Provide WiFi Passphrase
After that, Netgear will ask you to type the security key you have set to protect your wireless network from unauthorized access. Carefully enter the passphrase and press “Next.”
Step 7: Revise your connection details.
You can now change the SSID and security key of your Netgear extended network. However, Netgear provides you with an option to keep the details the same as earlier. But you can modify them as per your preference.
Step 8: Conclude the Netgear WiFi Extender Setup Process
Once you are done performing all the functions, you can conclude the process by clicking the “Next” tab from the window containing the credentials you have kept.
** For the users whose routers have the WPS button, they can opt the WPS method as it is much easier and convenient. For the WPS setup, you need to:
- Set up your extender and press its WPS button.
- After that, press the WPS button both from the extender and router, one by one.
- Unplug your extender and plug it in the middle of your dead zone and router.
This will complete the Netgear WiFi Extender Setup process, and you can connect your system with the extended network.
